Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift shocked the world when they went public with their romance in September 2023, but according to one of Kelce’s next-door neighbors, their relationship was already well underway months before the public caught wind of it.
Reality TV star Wes Bergmann, who lives in Kelce’s Leawood, Kansas, neighborhood, recently opened up about what he knew regarding the NFL star’s relationship timeline with Swift. During an appearance on the Social Game Podcast, Bergmann revealed that he had tried to tell people that Kelce and Swift were an item long before the relationship became public—but no one believed him.
“I was like the first person to know about any of this stuff,” Bergmann claimed.
“I tried to tell [host Michele Fitzgerald] a long time ago. I was like, ‘They’re together, just so you know’ … but she didn’t believe me.”
Early Speculation and Doubts About Kelce-Swift Romance
Bergmann recalled that Fitzgerald had been skeptical, largely because Swift had traditionally been linked to musicians and artists rather than professional athletes.
“She didn’t believe it. She was like, ‘She only goes for artists,’” he said.
“I beat the validating of her showing up to games and stuff by like six months.”
While Swift’s past relationships have often involved brooding, creative types, Fitzgerald pointed out that Kelce seemed like a different type of partner, describing him as a “chivalrous, all-American football player” rather than Swift’s typical “scrawnier” artist-type exes.
However, Bergmann strongly disagreed, insisting that Kelce, despite being a 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end, is essentially “the boy next door.”
“He’s an enigma—on one hand, he’s like this big, tough football player,” Bergmann said.
“On the other, he’s going to have about 12 Taylor Swift songs written about him.”

Bergmann first revealed that Kelce moved into his Leawood neighborhood in November 2023, several months after his relationship with Swift was already public. However, Kelce had already made real estate moves before then.

Bergmann also shared a hilarious personal story about being mistaken for Kelce while driving in the gated community.
“The paparazzi snapped me, and they thought I was Travis Kelce,” he revealed on the Feb. 5 episode of Rob Has a Podcast.
“The pictures were published online.”
Bergmann jokingly added that, due to his resemblance to the football star, he is apparently Kelce’s doppelgänger.
