Longtime sports broadcaster Erin Andrews recently revealed a frightening health scare that left her fearful and in pain. Speaking on the latest episode of her Calm Down podcast with Charissa Thompson, Andrews disclosed that she was dealing with a “pre-skin cancer situation” on her upper lip, an issue that caused both physical discomfort and emotional distress.
A History of Health Challenges
Andrews, who successfully battled cervical cancer in 2016, admitted that even routine skin checks trigger intense anxiety for her, as she worries about what doctors might find.
“I went for the old ‘Oh, it’s a great idea until you get in the car’ skin check—the whole shebang… I wanted to pass out in the middle of it because I’m so afraid they’re going to find something,” she shared, via The New York Post.
She revealed that she had been applying a cream treatment to her upper lip for five days, but noted that the affected area “really hurts”. However, she initially feared the situation was much worse before doctors confirmed it was pre-cancerous.
Andrews assured listeners that she would provide more updates on the next episode of her podcast, set to release Thursday.

A Storied Career in Sports Broadcasting
Despite dealing with health struggles, Andrews has continued to thrive in her career as one of the most respected voices in sports journalism. She has been with Fox Sports since 2012, covering some of the biggest sporting events on the planet, including:
- Five Super Bowls (including this past season’s)
- Two World Series
- The NFL’s biggest matchups as a lead sideline reporter
Most recently, she covered Super Bowl LVIII, where she witnessed the Kansas City Chiefs’ dramatic overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Following the game, she had an emotional moment with her longtime friend, Travis Kelce, after the Chiefs secured their third championship in five seasons.
“I just walked up to him and he stopped and I gave him a big hug,” she recalled.
“I was just like, ‘I’m so sorry, I love you, I’m so sorry.’ They’re humans too, you know.”
Uncertain Future with Fox Sports
While Andrews remains a fixture on Fox’s NFL coverage, her future with the network is uncertain. In September, she revealed that her contract expired after this past season, leaving questions about what comes next.
“I think my goal is always kind of the same as last year: Enjoy it, because it’s not going to last forever, especially when your contract is up—and mine is,” she said on Calm Down.
Before joining Fox Sports, Andrews was a key figure at ESPN, where she contributed to college football coverage and co-hosted the first hour of College GameDay.

Personal Life and Motherhood
Beyond her professional career, Andrews has embraced motherhood after welcoming her son, Mack, in 2023 via surrogate. She and her husband, former NHL star Jarret Stoll, have been married since 2017 and have navigated both professional and personal challenges together.
As she continues to balance her career, motherhood, and health, Andrews remains a beloved and influential figure in the world of sports media. Fans will be eagerly waiting for her next update on both her health and professional future.
