Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have met for the first time since 2019, with the US and Russian leaders hoping to reach a peace deal over Ukraine
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have met face-to-face for the first time since 2019. The US and Russian leaders touched down in Anchorage, Alaska, today in the hope of reaching a peace deal over Ukraine.
Historic images captured Trump walking down the steps of Air Force One at the same time Putin was exiting his presidential plane. The pair then walked side by side down a red carpet, shaking hands and exchanging words.
Online commenters noticed 79-year-old Trump seemingly struggling to walk in a straight line, while Putin, 72, was spotted apparently limping to fuel health fears once more for both presidents.
Nia Williams, a body language expert and relationship expert has revealed the pair both appeared “incredibly friendly” through a number of gestures as they walked together.
She said Trump clapping Putin signified “approval” and “somewhat of a salute”. Nia, the director of dating service Miss Date Doctor told the Irish Star: “He puts out his hand this demonstrates warmth and openness and a approach to connect with Putin. He then pats the side of his arm. This indicates him trying to let Putin know he supports him and giving a sense of comfort reassurance that everything is fine.”
Nia continued: “They both smile at each other this shows they revere each other and it seems friendly as though they are two old friends reconnecting.
“They hold hands which means companionship, overall trust and closeness and pause briefly for a brief photo. They exchange some words and body language between the two displayed connection, rapport warmth and a hope for resolution.
“They seemed extremely comfortable smiling on both sides is an indication of joy and also helps in releasing stress. As they approach the car Donald placed his hand on Putin’s back a sign of affection, guidance and protection. They get into the car together displaying unity. The overall exchange is incredibly friendly.”
The two world leaders are now locked in a series of discussions hoping to hammer out a peace agreement to bring the Ukrainian conflict to an end. Cameras captured a peek inside the high-stakes meeting, with Nia noting how Trump and Putin’s body language had shifted dramatically.
Nia continued: “Both parties as they are sitting on their chair do the triangle gesture(steeple hands) with their hands. This is all about power, authority and confidence. This is also called steeple hands interestingly the way they are sitting is similar and their postures indicate pure unshakeable authority.”
