The New York Jets have reportedly made their final decision regarding wide receiver Davante Adams, with plans to part ways with the veteran playmaker in the coming days.
Over the weekend, reports surfaced that the Jets had placed Adams on the trade block, actively fielding calls from teams interested in acquiring the All-Pro receiver. However, despite discussions, no trade materialized, leading to speculation that New York would ultimately release Adams rather than retain him for the 2025 season.
On Monday, Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline reported that Adams’ camp had already been informed of the team’s decision to cut him, with the move expected to take place sometime this week.
Given the Jets’ recent roster moves, including moving on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers—Adams’ longtime friend and former Green Bay Packers teammate—the decision to part ways with the star receiver does not come as a major surprise.

Financially, the move makes sense for New York. Adams’ $38.3 million salary for the 2025 season is not guaranteed, and by releasing him, the Jets would only absorb an $8.3 million dead cap hit. Given their ongoing roster restructuring, clearing Adams’ contract from the books would provide additional flexibility heading into free agency.
Adams, 32, remained productive last season despite the turmoil surrounding the Jets’ offense. In 14 games, he recorded 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. His season began with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he played three games before being dealt to New York in exchange for a conditional third-round pick.
Now set to become a free agent, Adams is reportedly eyeing a return to the West Coast, with multiple playoff-caliber teams emerging as potential landing spots.
Several contenders in that region are expected to express interest in adding the veteran playmaker, who remains one of the most reliable receiving threats in the league.
As the Jets officially move on, all eyes will be on where Adams lands next and whether he can continue his high-level production with a new team.
