The Bills finished the 2024 regular season with a 13-4 record and a fifth straight AFC East division title. Their success earned them the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs, right behind the Chiefs, who earned the top spot along with a coveted bye week.

Buffalo only made the playoffs once between 2000 and 2017, and it was in 2017. The franchise made the decision to draft quarterback Josh Allen with the seventh overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Since bringing in Allen, the Bills have made the playoffs in six out of seven years, with the lone playoff absence being the year he was drafted.

The Bills are still searching for their first Super Bowl appearance since 1993, which was the fourth consecutive Super Bowl loss for the franchise.

With a wild-card matchup against the Broncos coming up on Sunday, Jan. 12 let’s take a look at how Allen has fared in the playoffs.

Josh Allen playoff record

Year Playoff Record Result
2019 0-1 L, Wild Card vs. Texans
2020 2-1 L, AFC Championship vs. Chiefs
2021 1-1 L, Divisional vs. Chiefs
2022 1-1 L, Divisional vs. Bengals
2023 1-1 L, Divisional vs. Chiefs
Total 5-5 —

Allen has played in 10 playoff games so far in his career. It started rough in 2019 when he and the Bills lost in the wild card round to the Texans. Allen rebounded and took a step forward in his progression the next year, leading Buffalo to wins over Indianapolis and Baltimore in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Bills’ momentum ended with a 38-24 loss to the Chiefs in the championship round.

This was the start of a postseason rivalry against Kansas City. It has been admittedly one-sided so far as the Chiefs have knocked the Bills out of the playoffs in three of the last four seasons.

Buffalo has had success surviving the wild card round, making it to the divisional round in four straight seasons.
